According to Jack Layton, Canada’s Afghan mission is a complete failure as the role will do little more than create a new generation of Taliban fighters. Layton’s party demands that the 2500 troops in Afghanistan be returned home and that diplomacy should be pushed. Bottom line, there has been very little progress and Harper has shown no end in sight for the Canadians military missions.

Both articles are interesting, Mike. However, what do you think might the consequences of a full withdrawal of troops (both Canadian and American) from the Afghanistan theatre of war? Clearly, that question is on the minds of policy makers in both countries.
ReplyDeleteI think the mission itself is really a politcal move for The United States and Canada as opposed to a legitimate pursuit. Both countries are really just showing their support and assertion in Afghanistan, so they can do their part in this world affair. I also believe that having our troops there is a neutralizer for Afghanistan as it deters Taliban attacks and forces more stability. With the amount of uncertainty in the country right now, having one foot in the door at the moment is the idea for the time being.
